Wishing Shri Mallikarjun Kharge Ji all the best in his new role as President of INCIndia. I hope his future term is productive.

By defeating Shashi Tharoor, Kharge became the first non-Gandhi Congress president in 24 years. On October 26, he would assume control of the new position, according to party MP Randeep Surjewala.

Kharge was named the winner of the Congress president election by Madhusudan Mistry, head of the national election authority for the party. Mistry stated that out of the 9,385 total votes cast, Kharge won 7,897 votes, while Tharoor received 1,072 votes. The remaining 416 votes were ruled to be invalid.

In his first speech as the new Congress president, Kharge congratulated Sonia Gandhi on behalf of the whole party membership. She sacrificed many years of her life for the grand old party, he claimed.

On behalf of the whole party staff, I would like to thank Sonia Gandhi. We twice created our government at the Center under her leadership, he remarked.

Kharge also extended his congratulations to Tharoor, his electoral rival. I also want to congratulate Shashi Tharoor, my partner. I met him and we talked about how to advance the party, he stated.

There is no big or little in the party we all have to labour like party workers. The fascist forces that are undermining democratic institutions while disguising their actions as communalism must be defeated together, he continued.
